Client: Australian National Oceans Office

This project involved provision of specialist advice on the potential role of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Fisheries and Marine Resources Working Groups in long-term tsunami response.

Client: Government of Taiwan/Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)

Briefing papers to provide advice to the fifth (2004) and sixth (2005) APEC Roundtable Meeting on the Involvement of the Business/Private Sector in the Sustainability of the Marine Environment (Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei) were produced as part of this project. These briefing papers were used to advise on models for private sector engagement in marine and coastal management.

Client: Dubai Municipality

The Dubai Beach Safety Project involved an analysis of the legislative, policy, planning and operational framework for the management of beach safety in Dubai. The project recommended a range of institutional and policy-strengthening measures in conjunction with operational management measures to reduce beach-user risk.

Client: United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)

This project provided a strategic review of integrated coastal zone planning in Asian tsunami affected countries. It required provision of information and perspectives for Government officers and development practitioners involved in coastal area planning and management and agriculture, fisheries and forestry in coastal areas.

Client: EMAAR/Africon (Dubai) - Rabat Saphira Corniche

This project provided marine, coastal environmental and coastal zone management advice for development along a 12 km section of the open coastline in Rabat, Morocco. The advice provided was used for the development of the conceptual architectural and infrastructure master plan.

Client: Routledge Publishers (London)

The textbook Coastal Planning and Management was recently revised as a Second Edition for Routledge publishers in the UK. This book is considered to be the leading text on the global ICZM practice blending institutional analysis, policy and strategic planning with practical operational management considerations.

Client: United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) Secretariat – Regional Coastal Adaptation Training Indonesia and Paraguay

Training services were provided to 70 experts from the Asia-Pacific region and 50 experts from the Latin America and the Caribbean region engaged in the preparation of National Communications under the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Client: UNFCC Secretariat – Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) Training Strategy

This project was concerned with the formulation of a comprehensive training strategy as an important component in building and sustaining the capacity of non-Annex I Parties of the Kyoto Protocol in preparing the national communications.

Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment

Examples of Key Projects in this area include:

Client: Australian Greenhouse Office

Review of approaches for assessing and communicating the vulnerability of Australia’s coastline to climate change. Expert sub-contractors were used to provide input on models, approaches and policy templates. Services included drawing together expert peer reviewers to provide global best-practice advice.

Capacity Building and Communications

Examples of Key Projects in this area include:

Client: EU/University of Kiel

The INCOFISH (Integrating Multiple Demands on Coastal Zones with Emphasis on Aquatic Ecosystems and Fisheries) project specifically targeted strategic research towards reconciling multiple demands on coastal zones with special emphasis on developing countries. This Work provided the framework for compilation and analysis of data relevant to the understanding of interactions, impacts and flows in the coastal zone.

Client: Coastal CRC (Australia)

The objective of this project was to synthesize key research undertaken by the Australian Coastal Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) into open and readable ‘Issues’ factsheets suitable for the ‘technical officer to mid-manager’ level within council.
