About
the Committee
The
Save Manly Dam Catchment Committee is a local community group with members
throughout the Manly Warringah area.
Our mission is:-
|
|
|
- to
conserve the vulnerable Manly Dam catchment, its streams and bushland
surrounds;
- to
maintain its diverse flora and fauna; and
- to
improve its water quality.
|
|
|
Overall
the committee has been very active yet we have seen further deterioration
in the bushland and water quality in the catchment. I hope we can encourage
everyone to re-double their efforts to protect this fantastic area.
The Save Manly Dam Catchment Committee has
|
|
|
- lobbied
local, state and federal governments to ensure protection of the bushland,
creeks, flora and fauna within the catchment.Members have represented
the community at the Land and Environment Court on several occasions.
- spent
many years opposing the Ardel development at the headwaters of Manly
Dam. Despite four hearings in the Land
and Environment Court
the development was approved, although somewhat smaller than the original
proposal, it has done enormous damage to the site.
- has
succeeded in adding areas of bushland to the Manly Dam Reserve, including
a large area around McComb Hill, and protecting other bushland from development,
eg land along Aquatic Drive..
- is
also involved in research into the ecology of the area in association
with students and staff of the University of Technology, Sydney
and the University of New South Wales
