- Is your house too hot in summer, or too cold in winter?
- What will make it better - air conditioning, some shading devices,
a heater, or a new window to let winter sun come flooding in?
- What will give the best results? What will cost less? How
efficient will it be?
If you've ever asked yourself these sorts of
questions, then believe me, you are not alone. Lets face it, everybody would like to
sell you something and every sales person believes their product is the best. Of
course a particular product may be the very best there is, but using that product will not
necessarily give you the best result.
Let me give you a simple tip. If you
explore natural and economical solutions first, then in most cases you will get
substantial improvement, if not complete satisfaction. And if you still find that
you need some added heating or cooling, it will cost a mere fraction because the bulk of
the job has already been done naturally and economically.
Because each house plan or existing house is different,
and the building site, the climate, or neighbouring circumstances are different, each case
must be treated individually. And that is just what we do.
We offer a consulting service to explain choices
that will simply and economically increase the thermal efficiency of any plan you may be
proposing to build, or how you can modify your present house. We highlight all the
factors that will cause you to feel excessively hot or cold, and explain how they can be
reduced or eliminated. Then if you still need heating and cooling, you will find it
cheap, economical and efficient.
Thermal modeling
Ken is authorised by the Western Australian
Office of Energy to rate houses using the National House Energy Rating Scheme (Nat HERS)
software. Houses are awarded between 1 and 5 stars according to their efficiency,
with 5 stars being the best.
This is a thermal rating despite its
"energy" title. It models all the pertinent characteristics of your house
in terms of the climate in which it stands, or in which it will be built. Factors
such as house orientation, window sizes, construction materials, ventilation, insulation,
shading, and even neighbouring structures are taken into account.
The "report" obtained from this
modeling can then be interpreted and adjustments made to the house to improve its
performance, just by altering relevant data fed into the computer. When optimum
performance is obtained, the plans can be altered to match the data. Now the
owners can be confident that comfortable living conditions will be obtained in the
finished house.
If you are dissatisfied with comfort levels in
your house, or if you have not had your plans made to ensure that you will get natural,
economical comfort benefits, then our consulting or modeling services may be just what you
need. It is far easier and cheaper to alter plans than to alter buildings.
Knowing what to alter, if anything, makes all the difference.
Build a comfortable house and your family
will love you forever.
