Management Strategy for One-leaf Cape Tulip (Moraea flaccida)

One-leaf cape tulip (Moraea flaccida) is described in Managing Perthıs Bushlands as a highly invasive species in disturbed areas. It is very difficult to control.

It appears in Shenton Bushland in degraded areas near the southern boundary along the Defence Department land, and along path sides. It has not yet invaded good bushland areas.

Control Methods

The method recommended in Managing Perthıs Bushlands is :

  1. You need a good eye to spot the plants before flowering! Remove small infestation by hand by cutting roots with a knife to remove corms. Donıt try to pull! Since not all corms shoot every year, infestations must be regularly monitored.
  2. Chemical control spot spraying with Glyphosate (1 in 1 water).

Monitoring Methods

Visit all known sites to check whether it is about to flower (September to November)
