Rally for Underwood - 11 am Sunday 4th May - Grace Vaughan House car park

Interlocking trees at Underwood

Interlocking trees at Underwood

The Environment Minister (David Templeman) is expected to make a decision on Underwood shortly - please show your support.

Our plans may change (eg due to weather) - so please call Dani (6304 2140 wh, 0420334601 mob) for more detailed information.

Our current plan is to meet at Grace Vaughan House car park at 11.00 am - and then walk though Shenton Bushland to Underwood.

In the Bushland

John pulling pelargonium

John pulling Pelargonium

Over summer we have been removing veldgrass and pelargonium in preparation for spraying over winter.

We find that late summer is a good time to remove pelargonium because relatively few seedlings survive the summer, so we don't have as many plants to remove.

We also find that removing the large veldgrass clumps makes it easier for the spraying contractor because the new seedlings are more vulnerable to the sprays.

Photobucket

Working in the bushland over summer brings its own joys. There are relatively few plants in flower, so it is always a pleasure to come across the plants that are flowering. In recent weeks we have noticed that many of the sedges are flowering.

Camp site # 2

Working in the bushland over summer also gives us a chance to check up on areas we don't visit often.

We found this camping site close to Lemnos Street - looks like someone is sleeping rough here from time to time.

Our next committee meeting will be discussing our activities for the coming year.

We will be discussing implementation of our management plan.
