Of Eastern Indian origin, Subrina Kavitha’s first exposure to music came from her father , a musician and classical Indian dancer who spent hours with his Miruthangam (Indian percussion instrument), instilling sufficient knowledge in her so that she could walk down the path of rhythms on her own. Her deep passion for Middle Eastern dance began to surface when she decided to explore in depth the real meaning, values and attributes of this art form. This search for truth took her all the way to Egypt where she obtained her training in Raqs Sharqi – Oriental Dance of the East. Subrina has taught dance in Singapore and Boston. She was the Creative / Performing Arts Director of Hougang Care Center a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center in Singapore where she used dance as a form of therapy. Other areas of training consists of Jazz Ballet from Lasalle Sia – Singapore, Bharathanatyam/Indian Classical Dance from Triveni school of Dance – Boston and Hindustani Classical music – Boston. Currently located in Tacoma, Washington, Subrina continues to teach and explore her passionate world of dance and music. Her classes range from basic to advanced levels comprising of a good mix of techniques, rhythm, musicality and creativity. She spends time creating recipes, various mixtures from herbs and oils based on the Ayurvedic Texts – Indian medicine and knowledge of her forefathers. Her hope is to enlighten others inside and out by sharing her knowledge of dance, music, food and ancient remedies. “ I have embarked on this journey experiencing transformations one after another, magical and beyond what the human mind can describe.”
