Sewing Lessons

Learn to sew in group and private lessons. Sewing is a
wonderful art, achievable in some form by everyone.
It is never too early or too late to start and although seen to be
dominantly a female pastime, some of the world's greatest
designers and tailors are men. We do welcome male students.

Our classes are small and friendly with a maximum of 6 - 8 students.
Courses run within the four school terms, with morning and afternoon classes
from Monday to Thursday, evening classes on Monday. Something for everyone!

Mastering Your Machines - Understanding and utilizing the full capability of your machine
and overlocker is an important part of successful sewing. We have several courses that specialize
in this and will enable you to become a master of your machines. You will also be amazed at the
amount of decorative work you can achieve with a very basic machine and overlocker.

Fabric & Pattern Knowledge - learning all about fabrics and the ins and outs
of patterns will help you make the right fabric and pattern choices avoiding some disasters. An insight into measuring and adjusting patterns and then how to follow instructions correctly can make a daunting task into a simple pleasure.
Courses such as 'Fabric Knowledge', 'Understanding Patterns' and
'Adjusting Patterns for Fit' will all put you on the right track.

Sewing everyday clothes - for both adults and children, in stretch and woven fabrics enables you
to keep up with fashion trends, while keeping costs down.

Perfect Fit - we all know how important perfect fit is, and it is achievable no matter what your shape is. "Adjusting Patterns for Fit" and our range of "Perfect" classes ie "Perfect Pants", Perfect Blouse"
and "Perfect Skirt" hones in on the fitting aspect, giving you a greater understanding of patterns,
how to adjust them, and how to construct that perfect garment (intermediate level).

Sewing special occasion wear - is especially rewarding as it enables you to make a gown or outfit
that not only fits perfectly, but that no-one else will be wearing and you won't have to break the bank
to be "Belle of the Ball".

Active wear - has become an important component of our wardrobe, as we find the growing need
to include regular exercise in our daily regime. Whether you head off to the beach, the gym, pool
or maybe off on your bike or on a brisk walk, what better way to enjoy them than in comfortable gear
made to fit in the latest fashion lycra. Sewing with lycra is not difficult once you know
the correct techniques and tricks of the trade.

Specialist Classes - In order to keep up with the ever changing
fashion trends, we offer ever increasing specialist courses.
These include things such as denim wear, lingerie, sewing with sheers,
and sewing with stretch wovens.

Tailoring and Couture Sewing - is not for the faint hearted, but easily achievable by
intermediate to advanced sewers. It involves precision work and patience but the results
are hugely satisfying. The tailored jacket is the masterpiece, but you can work your way to that
by beginning with simple lined garments such as waistcoats, skirts, dresses and casual jackets.

Sewing Men's casual wear - is also increasing in popularity and our tie making workshops
have proved to be very successful.

Creativity - Once you have mastered the basics of sewing, then the fun really starts as you can
let your creativeness run wild by learning and applying a whole array of decorative techniques
which can be used to add flair and individuality to your garments. These courses will often be
in the form of workshops and are great fun for everyone.

Pattern Making - gives you your own design license. You will be able to create your own styles
to suit your body shape without the use of commercial patterns (intermediate to advanced sewers).

Soft Furnishings - although there is a fair amount involved
in sewing soft furnishings such as curtains and swags, the techniques
are simple, the results rewarding and the cost saving enormous.
Our courses are suitable for beginners as well as experienced sewers.

Children's Classes - we also encourage children to learn to sew.
In the 8 - 12 year old class, children will learn a variety of introductory
skills including cutting, pinning, hand sewing, operating a sewing machine. These skills are developed through the construction of items such as a carry bag, fibre filled rabbit, decorative novelty cushions.
As their skills develop, they will make clothing items for themselves.
These are fun filled classes withnumbers restricted to 6 students.

Teenage Classes - The teenage course is designed to develop garment construction techniques
while keeping up with fashion trends. Individuality and creativeness are encouraged and results
are very rewarding.

Private Lessons - are available for those who prefer one to one instruction. These lessons
are tailored for individual requirements. They can be booked in any available time-slot that suits you.
The cost is $30.00 per hour which can be shared if you wish to come with a friend.
