KITTO’s from CARDINHAM

This tree is provided to family historians without prejudice. I have constructed most of my KITTO family trees using the data I have available, and in a few cases it is estimated as the best fit from available choices.  In this tree, several of the links are yet to be proved, so any help that you can give to confirm any line would be appreciated by me and others searching in this family. More modern families also need your inputs, because as I can link modern families to each other, and thus it enables a focus on their common ancestry. The memories of one branch may not be complete, but yet may fill in gaps of another branch. Only by a concerted effort can we really define the true lineage. Help me to help you by sharing what you have.

From Cardinham for all of the 1700 to 1800’s, the movement of this family appears to be around 1810 to St Austell, where William, John and Humphrey have their children baptised at the St Austell, Wesleyan, and later in 1840 to Tywardreath.

(need the wills to really sort out these early families)

The West Briton and Cornwall Advertiser, 3 April 1840.

The Trial of James and William LIGHTFOOT continued.

Thomas Kitto [was] examined – “I am a miller, living in St. Breock. I supplied James Lightfoot in July last, with flour. The amount due from him was 10s. I had applied many times before Christmas for my money, and could not get it. I recollect the Wednesday after this murder took place; on that day my debt was paid. Maria Lightfoot, wife of the prisoner James, paid me a half sovereign.” This closed the case. Both were found guilty and hanged.

The South Terras Mine in Cornwall is between the villages of St. Stephen and Grampound Road

It was mined for a number of metals, including radium for Marie Curie's research. Now it is abandoned and noted for having dangerous radon concentrations.
