ORCHARD
THE EARLIEST FAMILIES
==================================================================
These very early
generations are pure speculation, based on their visibility in the early Chancery
Proceedings, Lay Subsidies and Musters. They are my guestimates only and not to
be quoted as fact. Any confirming or contrary data would be appreciated - Ken
STEWART < kjstew@iinet.net.au >
Much of the data was provided by Edward MARTIN and Barbara MANKIN and later for the northern families by Dallas MANICOM
An earlier family from Orchard has been provided by Ken OZANNE and can be found below at earliest
family
This tree is provided to family historians without prejudice. I have constructed most of my family trees using the data I have available, and in a few cases it is estimated as the best fit from available choices. In this tree, several of the links are yet to be proved, so any help that you can give to confirm any line would be appreciated by me and others searching in this family. More modern families also need your inputs, because as I can link modern families to each other, and thus it enables a focus on their common ancestry. The memories of one branch may not be complete, but yet may fill in gaps of another branch. Only by a concerted effort can we really define the true lineage. Help me to help you by sharing what you have. Many additional details have been provided by other researchers and where possible I have included the contributor's email addresses within the file next to their families, however there are countless others also involved. I am willing to also add you in to your ORCHARD family. My thanks to you all.

Early history researched by Edward MARTIN,
Copy received
Arms: Azure [blue], a chevron
argent [silver/white] between three pears or [gold/yellow]. Arms used by the
Orchards of Aldercombe (see D5) and on a 1695 deed by the widow of Thomas
Orchard of Marazion (see E2d).
This family probably takes its name
from a farm called Week Orchard, which lies at the northern end of the parish
of Week St Mary, close to the boundaries with the parishes of Marhamchurch and
Poundstock. Some early members of the family are styled 'of Millhouse' or
'alias Millhouse', or 'alias Melwys' which is the name of a farm adjacent to
Week Orchard. Kitsham is another farm close by.

likely there are two intermixed families ?? One of these may be the "alias Millhouse" line.

JACOBSTOW (1653+) and MARHAMCHURCH (1558+)
The
earliest family is apparently from the Week St Mary
family in Northern Cornwall estimated together around 1500, and relatives from
this family have moved south into nearby parishes.
The
families in Jacobstow and Poundstock may have come from these families
