KENWYN

KITTO’s from the KENWYN and ST ALLEN District

includes FEOCK, KEA, Early PERRANZABULOE, Early TRURO

This tree is provided to family historians without prejudice. I have constructed most of my KITTO family trees using the data I have available, and in a few cases it is estimated as the best fit from available choices. In this tree, several of the links are yet to be proved, so any help that you can give to confirm any line would be appreciated by me and others searching in this family. More modern families also need your inputs, because as I can link modern families to each other, and thus it enables a focus on their common ancestry. The memories of one branch may not be complete, but yet may fill in gaps of another branch. Only by a concerted effort can we really define the true lineage. Help me to help you by sharing what you have. Ken STEWART < kjstew@iinet.net.au >

ABBREVIATIONS USED

Other than the standard abbreviations and Chapman County codes I also use

(IGI reg) to designate source of IGI materials with "registers" source codes

(IGI patron) to show IGI materials with another source (not always reliable)

"c" before year date to show an estimated year

"cc" before year date to show I have used the spouse's date data as a rough guide

The (Qx 18xx #5c/xxx Truro) details are the GRO reference numbers for certificates

(This file was put together by Ken F STEWART <kjstew@iinet.net.au> and added data was provided by many others - special thanks to Sonia GROGONO for her direction changes)

=======================================================

The origins of this family may be elsewhere, however early registers are in poor condition or missing so it is possible that the family were around the district for quite a while. Thomas KITTO and Frances CORNISH both married in St Allen, however their children “seeded” quite a few nearby areas. Of the sons producing KITTO families, the eldest son John (1678) founded a large Kenwyn family. The next son Samson (1688) stayed in St Allen to marry and raise a big family, however some of his own sons moved out – Samson (1716) to Truro and John (1740) to Perranzabuloe. Both these families have massive numbers of descendants spreading from these two places.

William Kitto BATTEN born 1851, Cornish miner migrated to Great Western Victoria where he married Margaret CARRA.  William Carra BATTEN was born in 1880. The family came to Mt Bishop where William worked in the Mt Stanhope mine, six more children were born – Demetrius Thomas 1883, Richard John Vowden 1885, Mary Rose Zella 1888, George Stanhope 1889, Elfleda Beryl 1893, Edward Kitto 1895.  When the Stanhope Mine slumped, William packed his swag and walked to Zeehan to get work. The family followed by sea.  While working in the Stanhope Mine, William suffered a fractured skull from a falling rock. After the accident he experienced severe headaches and died in 1900 of a cerebral abscess and phthisis
