                                                                             LINKINHORNE

(With Thanks - Much of these early details are on an old family tree in a History Book of Linkinhorne dating from 1727, updated in 1896, with details provided from the OPC for Linkinhorne - Linda  SMALL, < mudle-small.freeserve.co.uk >, the Trewen register extracts were provided from Christopher DEAN, OPC for Trewen)

The Linkinhorne Origins have common origins in Penroose, North Petherwin

(1) John KITTOW b. c1500's Penroose, Dev, Eng. d. c1587 as John the Elder of North Petherwin, admon on 20 Jan 1587

(1) Walter KITTOW b. c1500's Penroose, Dev, Eng. d. c1591 North Petherwin, admon 12 Feb 1591

                                                                + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

There are no KITTOs in the 1569 Muster for Linkinhorne.

(1) Richard KITTOW b. c1570's Con, Eng. built original Browda House in Linkinhorne in 1602. His descendents still had it in 1901, occ: of Browda, Con, Eng.  (an early tree then states "45 Eliz 1603" and then NOTES: "This Richard KITTOW built the fine old Elizabethan mansion at Browda; the date and his initials may still be seen on the carved wainscoting of the hall . Ancient pieces of plate, bearing his initials and the dates, are still preserved here. The house, which is most pleasantly situated, is well cared for by the present owner."

                                                                + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

(1) Thomas KITTOW b. c1600s Con, Eng. signed the 1641 Protestation return in Linkinhorne, He was the only KITTO there in 1641.

"The KITTOWs of Penroose and Browda are the same family, but it has not been ascertained which is the elder branch."

A gap in these generations could be sorted out by referring to a series of wills available from the Cornwall Record Office, but which wills are a question. There are quite a few more from adjoining parishes.

John KITTOW (c1670) appears to have died early leaving a young family with their mother to the care of his brother-in-law, Thomas CONGDON, who faithfully carried out the trust.  The latter married somewhat late in life Joan BUDGE, who predeceased him childless. He died in 1748, leaving the bulk of his property to John KITTOW's children.
