ROSS

The Ross family of Kilsyth are apparently not an original Kilsyth family. They have arrived from other parts at different times. Charles ROSS came before 1727 as a merchant and became the Quartermaster of the Town of Kilsyth. Descendants of his are still found in Kilsyth. Andrew ROSS arrived from Madderty in Perthshire around 1835 as an overseer in a cotton factory. His large family probably has modern descendants there. Quite a few other individuals have arrived as labourers, shoemakers, canal builders and miners. Some have descendant families. All have contributed to Kilsyth's growth.
