A
technical advisory team has been set up to design the different pars of
the boats including the deck layout, winchless system, mast, boom,
pump system etc. Details on the designs will
be included on this page
Alwyn
Jarman :
Alwyn commenced with boat building at the aged of five when he helped his father
Alan (a qualified Boat Builder). Their first boat was a 21 foot raised deck
sloop. In October 1948 they received the
Dragon plans and since then they build a total of eight wooden dragons from 1948
to 1968. first in Oregon and thereafter in Honduras Mahogany over Ash ribs. In
1992 Alwyn assisted Reg Gardiner with building and completing four GRP boats out
of the Endeavour Borresen Moulds, D189 Rumbline, D190 Sea Joy VIII,
D191 Red Baron and D194.Lyla, the last three direct under his direct control.
The Red Baron became 3rd in the 1995 world championship.
Alwyn has 52 years experience
in the Dragon class and is a class measurer
in Australia. He crewed with his father in Seajoy I through VI, and currently
sails Seajoy VIII. Talking with Alwyn one quickly learns that there is a wealth
of knowledge on Dragon building. During the last boats they build they measured
each section and weighted exactly the amount of resin to use etc. !!!!
Bun
Lynn : 30 years experience in the class starting from 1968, including
First in two National Championships, two seconds and three thirds. At a State
level from 1973 to 1995 Bun won a total of Ten State Championships and has been
placed no worse than third during that time. Bun has a wealth of experience in
trimming and tuning the boats and has trained and coached his three sons who are
now top sailors in the Dragon class (Don't
we all wish a dad like Bun). Peter
Hay : Peter
rigged the Red Barron, one of the three boats build in 1992, which finished 3rd
overall in the 1995 World Championships. Peter is helping us with all types of
detail and advise on trim and deck layouts. Many of his ideas are found back on
the boats at RFBYC. Tony
Lynn : Tony
first started sailing Dragons as a crew in 1979. In that time, as a helmsman he
won 4 State Championships and finished 2nd twice in the 6 years he competed. In
Dragon National Championships, he reached a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placing in the
five years he competed. He reached a 6th place sailing a wooden Dragon during
the World Championships in 1995. Tony is the one to beat at this moment in
Western Australia (so we better make the
boats super fast)
