Charles Tasman Titmus 1
Charles & Merrion Gunner lived at Golconda during 1916-17 In his early days, George lived on the Lisle Goldfields. He used to walk across to Lillydale to play cricket. Proprietor of the Golconda Hotel. He moved to Lilydale & in 1926 applied to have his Hotel licence transferred to Lilydale. His application was strongly contested by the locals, but after bringing the case before the High Court of Australia, Mr. C.W.Bedgood was successful in obtaining the transfer to Lilydale in 1930, and Mr. Titmus became the holder of the licence in October, 1931. He was a trotting enthusiast & owned a number of horses including "May Cleve", which some years before 1941, paid record dividends at Launceston of 95 pounds. He also owned several racing greyhounds. |
