Ellen Mary Masterson ²

Ellen was known to Mary Robina Shepherd (nee Masterson) as Aunt Nell. She lived at corner of Nicholson & Bell Streets, Brunswick (or Coburg?), before she died. (KS remembers visiting her there).

Ruby told a story that Aunt Nell used to demonstrate bread-making (possibly at the Melbourne Town Hall). It was very popular, and her bread would be sold with the money going to charity. Ruby recalls that on one occasion, the last loaf of bread was offered and there was a clamour for it. Aunt Nell had a good sense of humour and fun, and ended up tossing the last loaf into the crowd from the stage, telling them to sort it out between them.

Ruby recalled another story that she was in the car of her Aunt Nell and Uncle Tom. She was in the "Dickie" seat at the back of the car. Suddenly the car screeched to a halt and her aunt and uncle hurried back to find Ruby asleep in the back - they had looked back and thought she had fallen out.

Ellen married Thomas Darcy in 1910 in Victoria, Australia.¹ (Thomas Darcy was born in Cork, Ireland ^{2 5}.)
