Tried 2 March 1849 Cavan, Ireland, for murder of a child. Sentence of death recorded, commuted to transportation for life, 29/3/1849. Age at trial 20. Transported on the Australasia. Arrived 29 Sept 1849. Religion RC.

Description: Trade - formerly servant. Height - 5' 2 3/4". Age 20. Hair - sandy. Forehead - high. Eyes - blue. Native place - Co. Cavan.

In his Will, Philip McGivney left his properties to his grandson Philip Smith. He left a payment of 100 pounds to his daughter Margaret Pearce (in Melbourne) in 10 equal annual installments. He also left an annuity of 10 pounds per year to his wife Ellen for life provided that she remained unmarried. There was a further payment of 20 pounds to Father John McKornan of the Catholic Church at Longford, later changed in a codicil to to the same priest for his own use.
