Thread: Starting Items/Starter Quest ----------------------- Hi guys, To enhance the new player experience I think we really need some starter items. Starting naked is a bit of a hamstring right off the bat. Especially when you have 0 gold. Since we do not pick a "template" or set of skills like we did in UO - it is also a bit harder to get off the ground. So my first suggestion would be a pick a minor profession as a first quest. So the first quest you did from your local councilor was the oblivion style: "hey tell me about yourself" quest. You could then pick: 1.) The weapon skill you wish to start off with - gives you 10 points of that weapon skill and changes your leaf blade to that item. (Weapons or Magic) --- OR --- 2.) A trade skill gives you 10 points in that trade skill (Saves the 500gp to buy it too) and the tools for that skill. ie: Pickaxe & Tongs for Weapons/Armoursmiths, Hatchet for Bowcrafter, Fishing rod and pots for Fisherman/Cook, etc. This is a lot better than throwing people straight out into the goblins since they will be crowded - heavily farmed and probably griefed on launch day because no-one has cash or the items to do anything but kill a couple goblins at the start. Starting Items: I also think that being naked at the start is a bit of a slap in the face. In your bank you should be given at least 200-500gp to kick your character off a stimulate the economy at the start. Now deleting character rules can prevent people abusing starter cash by constantly making new characters. (Its happened in every other game before). So heres my list of what I would expect on a new player: 1.) The shirt item which has no stats (currently bought at general vendor for 10gp) 2.) The shoes item which has no stats (currently bought at general vendor for 10gp) 3.) The pants item which has no stats (currently bought at general vendor for 10gp) 4.) Cloth armour chest piece 5.) 200-500gp in Bank 6.) 3 pieces of food - maybe apples or bread? 7.) 1 Minor Health potion 8.) 1 Minor Stamina poition This would be ample to get any player off the ground - especially if you take the first idea with new starter quest since you would be a little more capable and have a bit of a recovery kitty should you die the first few times to goblins.
