Joey 2 Mini-monitor
"The sound was fabulous, particularly across the mid-range, where it was precise and unfailingly accurate....Bass response was exceptional - we don't think we have heard so much bass from such a small cabinets. The little Joey 2s are a real giant killer and Legend's best design yet." Sydney Morning Herald 'the guide' Sep 16-22 2002
Joey is the baby of Legend's 'Kangaroo' range with the same fast, open Australian sound. So they are superb as rear speakers in a home theatre system with their bigger siblings - or, because they are fully shielded, as front speakers in their own right. With an Audax aerogel cone bass/mid unit and a high quality Peerless fabric tweeter, they are also ideal speakers for a true 'high fidelity' stereo system in a smaller room.
However, be warned. We have taken great care to minimise colouration, particularly resonances, that give many speakers a 'warm but fuzzy' sound - and make all recordings sound 'nice', much like bathroom resonances make us all sound like operatic tenors or sopranos. The measurements at the bottom of this page show that the Joeys have excellent frequency response and very fast decay.
Within their band-width of 50 Hz to 30 kHz, the Joey 2s are very faithful to the signal fed to them. If they are fed poorly recorded music or through poor front end electronics, the Joey 2s will sound poor. Conversely, fed with well-recorded music (eg a Telarc SACD) through high quality front-end electronics, the Joey 2s will sound superb.
In other words, a mini-monitor with true fidelity.
