LEGEND ACOUSTICS

Kurlo 3

"The Kurlo subwoofer is a delight, handling subtleties as well as it handles explosions."
Sydney Morning Herald "the guide" Oct 22-28 2001

"In fact I could not criticise any aspect of bass performance.  It was extremely smooth, powerful, well-extended and tight ....what more could you want". Australian HiFi May 2000

Legend's Kurlo subwoofer adds powerful, deep yet tightly controlled bass to any home theatre system producing extra excitement and drama for the enjoyment of your movies. It combines especially well with the famous fast open sound other Legend loudspeakers in our home theatre systems. The Kurlos can be placed in a corner or near a wall where they will 'disappear' because of their slender profile.

The new Kurlo 3 uses a 12" (30cm) extra-long throw bass-driver. It has a very large voice-coil and huge 3 Kg magnet to give a linear cone excursion of 20mm. This makes it equivalent to a 15" unit having a normal excursion of 6-8mm and so the bass driver will reproduce the loudest, deepest sounds and musical notes with superb ease.

We have increased the built-in power to 450W peak with huge current supply and heat-sink giving massive reserves of power for the long-throw drive unit. It can be connected either directly to your processor or pre-amp (at line level) or to a pair of speaker outputs from your main amplifier. It also has variable volume and upper frequency control; full phase control; and optional automatic power-up mode.

We have changed the Kurlo 3 to a sealed cabinet to improve speed and transient response. However we have also added electronic equalisation so that the frequency response is flat to 20 Hz below which it has been rolled of rapidly to avoid cone damage. At the top end, the frequency response can be rolled off from 40 - 160 Hz at -12 dB/octave. For the measurements shown below, it has been set at 60Hz.

The Kurlo's cabinets are very solidly built to minimise secondary vibrations that can muddle the sound. We use 25mm MDF veneered on both sides with Australian wood on the side and back panel and 40 mm of MDF on the front panel. In addition to giving a superb furniture finish, MDF has high strength and excellent damping. Cabinet strength is further increased by extensive asymmetric bracing; and damping is increased by addition of constrained-layer damping. Sound waves inside the cabinet are dispersed by a proprietary technique and absorbed by Australian wool.
