The Solar Battery Charger has been designed to maintain a battery in a fully charged state during periods of inactivity, such as over winter. Leaving a lead acid battery to discharge causes the plates to sulphate and a reduction in battery capacity. Maintaining full charge ensures the battery will be ready for use when required and helps prevent sulphation. The charger circuitry has been designed for high efficiency, so that even in low light conditions, charging current is still available.
