About the Soaring Model Society of WA Inc.

The Soaring Model Society of WA is a model aeronautical club based at Yokine Reserve. Our object is to promote the building and flying of soaring model aircraft, encompassing bungee and winch launched gliders, electric powered gliders with soaring capabilities, and electric powered Old Timer aircraft.

Flying Times

Yokine Reserve is available for use by club members seven days a week. Members mainly gather on Saturday and Wednesday. In winter, Saturday afternoons offer better opportunities to find thermals, and in summer the mornings are better before the sea breeze comes in.

Benefits of Membership

The benefits of membership of the Soaring Model Society of WA are many. Join other like minded aeromodellers with an interest in soaring models. Receive training in the correct operation of glider and powered models from the club's instructors. Public liability insurance is included in the membership fee.

History

The Soaring Model Society of WA has a brief history, having its genesis in August 2008 with an application to the City of Stirling to hire Yokine Reserve for the purpose of flying model aircraft. After a false start in December 2008, the club was granted access to the reserve in July 2009.
