DEVELOPING TWO-WAY
BIDIALECTAL EDUCATION
Some responses to Strategy 5
Strategy 5 comes from Two-Way English (p62) and is about misunderstanding deadlines. It gives advice on different concepts of time and of Aboriginal students' possible lack of familiarity with the way non-Aboriginal people continually measure periods of time. A teacher may benefit from this information when:
- they find that students don't hand in their homework in time;
- they find that students don't return books to the library within the due date;
- they appear too inflexible about their timetable;
- they need forms and money in on time for an excursion;
- they assume that their Aboriginal students have similar lifestyles to their own.
