Instructions to Task 2

Defining Aboriginal English

  1. Work in pairs (one Aboriginal person and one non-Aboriginal person).
  2. Write a definition of Aboriginal English.
  3. You may ask any of the facilitators for advice in developing your definition.
  4. Take your definition to your group and compare it with others and develop one that includes all the understandings of the group.
Objectives - this task should help you to:
  • Make your understanding of what Aboriginal English is stronger,
  • Help you understand that Aboriginal English a valid dialect, and
  • Make your understanding of the difference between home talk and school talk stronger.
