  1. The students may be choosing to write in this code - introduce code-switching by displaying alternative forms around the room;
  2. Use a 'How else could we say that' strategy;
  3. Use information from the writing for future teaching points (eg, spelling of 'rooster' by reviewing local take-away food outlets);
  4. Ask the teacher the context of this writing task;
  5. Take care when scaffolding that it is not seen as correction;
  6. BE POSITIVE - PRAISE THE STUDENT;
  7. Don't change anything, this is that students' own experience.
