The Silver Fern's Attributes
The Silver Fern is perfectly set up as a floating home. There is heating for cool nights and fans and an air conditioner for the warm French summers. Fully stocked kitchen, fridge, a comfortable dining area, and satelite television.
Galley
The kitchen is extremely well stocked so you can cook anything. The kitchen has implements for sailing as well as those for when connected to mains electricity in a port (eg, electric kettle, toaster, etc.)
Cabins
Silver Fern has two double bedrooms and two bathrooms/toilets. Two extra people can be accommodated by placing mattresses in the dining area (as in a caravan), but it is most comfortable with four people. Linen provided, towels and quilts are provided.
September 2nd 2007
Breakfast for us is usually our favourite cereal called 'crustilliant' - a sort of toasted muesli or granola. We have it will little pots of fromage frais - a sort of sharp yoghurt/cream cheese. But with a short walk (or ride) the cafes open early with coffee and boulangerie too with their delicious croissants.
Sept 6th. I walked around the village of Petit Ouges (big Ouges is further on!). The little town is so tidy, clean and lovely: one grande maison, un vieux chateau (of course). As I walked around a little yellow van stopped outside some of the houses and tooted. An old lady came out with her purse and the lady in the van opened up the back. She was selling baguettes, croissant and pastries, then off she went and tooted outside the next house. Cute heh!
Getting Around
Most of the time we enjoy a walk into the village to shop, but we do have two bikes on board (one ladies and one mens). In the bigger towns like Dijon - the local free bus is the best way to get to the markets etc, but there is a supermarket within walking distance there too.
