Patricia Dooey began her career as a
primary school teacher in Dublin in 1977.
In 1982 she moved to Sydney and worked as a
primary ESL teacher in Sydney Catholic
schools, for three years.
After moving to Perth she began teaching in
the ELICOS Program at Curtin, where she
also worked as the IELTS administrator, WA
for eight years.
She is currently the IELTS Senior Examiner for
WA and teaches on the English Language
Bridging Course preparing overseas students
for mainstream study.

John Polias is an international consultant in language and literacy.
He is currently one of two accredited tutor trainers for the ESL in the
Mainstream Course and the Language and Literacy Course:
Classroom Applications of Functional Grammar.
John has been an ESL teacher since 1978 at all levels of schooling,
a lecturer in ESL teaching and linguistics at university level and a consultant
in language and literacy since 1991. He is also a writer of curriculum and
teaching materials and has written or co-written a variety of materials for
the SA Department of Education. In recent months John has worked with
Geography teachers in the UK, Italy and Hong Kong and with Science and
History teachers in South Australia.
