Researchers use the comparative method to look at similarities and differences between societies or within societies. We must remember that in order to compare anything there must be a certain degree of similarity in order for the comparison to be meaningful. The comparative method is most often employed to examine situations as they currently exist, but can also be used to compare situations across different historical times.
