In general terms, the research design is the process of planning and executing a research project. More specifically, the research design refers to the way the researcher controls the results of the experimental or the empirical research.

The research design connects the research questions to the data. It is the basic plan of:

• what or who will be studied,
• how and with what will this be done, and
• in within which particular conceptual framework will the results be interpreted.
