Controlling the temporal structure of the Conclusion
The conclusion situates the whole research process including the discussion in the past. It refers to the study findings as a whole and might include recommendations for policy, implications for practice or suggestions for further research.
Future recommendations, implications or suggestions are typically written with non-finite, hypothetical reference. This might be done by using abstract, non-referential subjects, passive constructions, infinitival constructions, subjunctive mood or modals:
- It is recommended that stakeholders in the area seek to have a voice in the decision making processes which involve their children...
- One recommendation might be that stakeholders try to raise their voice in policy making decision processes at the local level...
- A further recommendation is that stakeholders be more proactive in making their particular concerns explicit to those who make policy changes at the local level...
- Another implication arising from this research is the need for educators to focus more on...
- Further empirical research is required in the area of individual subject preference and subsequent achievement.. The correlation between these two factors has not been adequately tested in the current research since it was not directly within the scope of the major research questions.
