Project 16 - Tackling Talk in Farming

What sort of language functions are required in a farming community?

You will need to review the information on functions of language. You will also need to consider language for learning and social interaction.

Research Questions:

  1. What sort of functions will your students use language for in a farming environment?
  2. How many of these skills can your students already confidently carry out?

Research Method:

  • Choose a set of language functions (e.g., explaining a contractual task, negotiating a price/delivery, etc).
  • Note in your DWP if your students can use of these particular functions.
  • Note how you would normally record your assessment of this language features, e.g., would you:
    • note them as anecdotes,
    • record them in a portfolio,
    • conduct a formal test,
    • note them in your DWP, or
    • not normally assess or record them.
