Project 4 - Tackling Talk in Small Business
What sort of words are needed to communicate successfully with people in small businesses?
Do you need extra information on the types of vocabulary required for this type of communication?
Research Questions:
- What is the vocabulary specific to the small business speech environment that you have studied (eg, the supermarket, hairdresser, bike shop, real estate, stock agent, bank, etc.)?
- Do your students have a mastery of this vocabulary?
- How do your students need to expand their vocabulary to be able to access or participate in small business?
You might also need to review the information on functions of language and social interaction.
Method:
- Review the vocabulary use of the particular small business enterprise you have observed.
- Note in your DWP how well your students' know these words.
- Note how you would normally record your assessment of this sort of vocabulary, e.g., would you:
- note them as anecdotes,
- record them in a portfolio,
- conduct a formal test,
- note them in your DWP, or
- not normally assess or record them.
