Project 6 - Tackling Talk in Community Services
What sort of words are needed to access community services?
Do you need extra information on the types of vocabulary required for this type of communication?
Research Questions:
- What vocabulary is needed when dealing with community services (e.g., the police, doctors, dentists, etc)?
- Do your students currently have control of these words?
- What additional words do your students still need to be able to communicate successfully in this type of speech environment?
Method:
- Observe the range of words used for accessing these services (e.g., words for explaining one's illness to a doctor or problem to a dentist, or words for explaining one's activities to the police, etc).
- Note in your DWP your students' current abilities with this vocabulary.
- Note how you would normally record your assessment of these functions, e.g., would you:
- note them as anecdotes,
- record them in a portfolio,
- conduct a formal test,
- note them in your DWP, or
- not normally assess or record them.
