Hello race fans ...........
Welcome to the Mad Max Racing latest news update. The Marlows Westernationals at the Kwinana Motorplex was all it was reved up to be with some great passes in all categories. The weather was the only setback with temperatures reaching 40 degrees C in the afternoon, and it didnt get much better as night fell with the temperature still in the 33 degrees C range. The best the corrected air got to was about 3200 feet above sea level for Saturday and Sundays racing. With things being so hot on Saturday we decided to give the first qualifier a miss. We towed out for the second qualifying session with the fresh Pro Mag back on the engine. We sent it away for testing and found the coil lead was randomly earthing out to the points box - giving the cylinders no spark when needed. I was confident the problem was fixed with the engine sounding a lot crisper when we warmed the engine up. How wrong I was. The engine still had a miss and shook hard running a sluggish 7.37 @ 164 mph. After returning to the pits we found a broken wing strut and the wing came off. For the third qualifying session I put the 'old trusty' Super Mag back on the engine and we cranked out a 6.930 @ 190.67 mph. The car was still shaking pretty hard off the start line - but the sixty fot time was our best ever with a 0.986 sec. Off to the ANDRA scales to weigh in and claim one half of a national record. We will have to back up the run on Sunday to set the record. The time was good enough to land us in number two qualifying spot - .210 secs under the national index. Sunday came and we were up against Rob and Jackie Pilkington's AA/G Holden ute. The run turned into an easy win with their car being shut down with water leaking from the engine. I ran a 7.277 @ 189.87 mph to take the win. Off to the scales again.!! Second round was going to be a tough race with The Sheehan family's CC/A in the other lane. We only just made it to the staging lanes just in time after having to repair a cracked exhaust pipe in the break. The car left like a rocket (0.962 sixty footer) and stuck to the track to record a 6.919 @ 189.47 mph. We had just reset the ET national record - and killed our index for the next round of racing. Off to the scales again.!! In the semi-final we were up against Wayne and Lisa Keys AA/AP BMW. We both came into stage and as I brought the revs up the trans brake jumped forward on me and I thought I had red lit. It put me off my concentration and I cut a 0.7 reaction time. The race was over right there as I took off to record a 6.958 @ 191.89 mph - only 0.11 mph short of the MPH national record. Off to the scales again.!!!! It was a disappointing end to a great weekend. So its back to the garage and get it ready for the March 24th meeting. See you there. Trevor |
