Plucked Strings is an established radio programme on every Sunday evening from 6 to 7pm. The programme was presented for many years by Naomi Millett and now by Darryn Santana, Jason Marais, Natalie Ong and Graham Hawkes. They present a varied programme of music from the rich world of the guitar and related instruments, notice of guitar events, live performances, new releases, Guitar Society news, interviews and requests. The RTRFM web site offers live broadcast, re-streaming from archives of previous shows and playlists.

YOUR REQUESTS WELCOME

Between us we have a fair range of music but since we cannot bring a whole library into the studio, a request may take a week or two to be broadcast.

Boyd Meets Girl
Boyd Meets Girl pairs Australian classical guitarist Rupert Boyd with American cellist Laura Metcalf in a duo that performs an eclectic repertoire from Bach to Beyoncé, including many of their own arrangements. The New York-based couple, partners in life and music, are both acclaimed soloists in their own right: Rupert Boyd is recognized as one of the most talented guitarists of his generation while Laura Metcalf has been described as "brilliant" by Gramophone Magazine. Together these two outstanding artists create musical magic as they perform a mix of the classic and the contemporary modern in this distinctive instrumental combination.

The English Orpheus

Orpheus
Music Directors: Jonathan Paget, Emma Matthews & Melissa Fitzgerald Performed by Classical Guitar, Classical Voice students and staff

Once thought to be musically inferior, the riches of the English musical tradition were rediscovered through musicians such as tenor Peter Pears and virtuoso classical guitarist Julian Bream. Pears and Bream premiered new works by modern masters such as Britten, Tippet and Berkeley, while also bringing to light the glories of the lute music of the Elizabethan golden age. Join us for a celebration of the English Orpheus across the ages, in a musical journey showcasing the best of English songs and madrigals, and English music for classical guitar.
