Hunter

Before the arrival of the European settlers, Aboriginal populations living in Western Australia could be found along the coast, in mountain ranges, in the plains, in deserts, and beside rivers and lakes.

They lived together in local groups  made up of two or more related families. Each group hunted, fished and gathered in a territory that may have been as small as one hundred and twenty square kilometres of fertile country, or as large as several hundred square kilometres of desert country.

Each territory belonged to a local group and while a person could hunt or stay in a nearby territory belonging to their close relatives they could not enter the area of another group without permission.
