Form guide for the 2013 Melbourne Cup
Once you learn to interpret form guides it should be easy to pick a winner! But that's where most punters lose because there are other variables to consider than just past race form or speed. Professional punters try to pick a value horse, one that offers high odds but fair chance of winning.
In regards to the Melbourne Cup, it is a race that is notoriously difficult to pick using just past form. The reason being that these are some of the top stayers, many of which have won several races in Australia and overseas. All are presumably in excellent form. Think of it this way - the horse owners and trainers wouldn't ship their prized runners thousands of miles to Melbourne and spend tens of thousands in all sorts of fees and expenses just to have a run around Flemington. They are all here to win it.
Hopefully you will be able to separate the contenders from the pretenders with my user friendly guide. Remember that with 24 runners it is a big field and favourites don't usually fair that well. My suggestion is to look for a horse with odds in the mid tens to mid twenties.
