Operation Christmas Child 3/11/09
Thank you to everyone who came to morning tea on Friday morning and/ or took part in the Operation Christmas Child. 19 shoe boxes were received and were delivered to the Holy Cross Anglican Church this morning. There must have been another 50 or more boxes there and together they will travel to Cambodia, I believe. If you still wanted to fill a shoe box you can go online www.samaritanspurse.org.au
Many of you sent emails expressing interest, but all got too hard for this year... well, (some of you met my friend Natalie on Friday morning) Nat and I, along with another friend are hoping to collect 100 boxes next year. Maybe a whole lot more if we do it at school also. We have plans to launch it in July, so cast this amazing cause in your minds for next year and start collecting bits and pieces now! I have heard of a woman at Murdoch Uni who received a box as a young girl overseas... perhaps she could share her story with us next year! Stay tuned. Anyone who would like to be involved please let me know.

Update
I have just heard from Dawn that 94 shoe boxes were taken from Holy Cross to the Samaritan Purse pick up point for distribution in Cambodia. Thank you to everyone who prepared and donated a shoe box.Renee

Parish Fete 20/07/09
We know the Parish Fete is still away off but.......
Please be aware that the QUILT RAFFLE is well on the way.
Two splendid quilts are nearly finished and the raffle tickets will soon be available.
Please aim to take a book or two or three when the tickets are issued.
The First prize quilt is a masterpiece of applique and will be coveted by many.
In past years the quilt raffle has made a major fund raiser and we hope with the support of everyone we can do even better.

Holy Cross Church to Welcome Theological Student 23/05/09
I am pleased to announce that in July Holy Cross Church will be welcoming Rae Reinertsen for her church placement as a student in training.
I know that you will all make Rae very welcome here during her time with us and I especially look forward to welcoming her and working with her as she prepared for the ministry that God has called her to.
Please pray for Rae in her studies and journey with God and that she may know that she is valued and welcome at Holy Cross.
Rae has enclosed a note on her journey:
Rev Debbie
My journey so far!
At present I am a 3rd year student in the Priestly Formation program for the Diocese of Perth. I am studying at Murdoch University toward my Bachelor of Theology Degree and have two more units to complete my degree, next semester.
Besides my commitments with Parish placement and attending Wollaston College for priestly formation, I work part time as a registered nurse with a nursing agency to support myself financially, whilst in training. So life for me is very full on, particularly during the academic semester.
I have lived in the West for thirty five years now, having originally come from the Eastern States, from Sydney, to nurse in Hall's Creek Hospital. I liked the West so much that I decided to live over here permanently and settled down in Carnarvon. I have also enjoyed living in Geraldton, Derby and Quairading. So I now regard myself as a West Australian.
I am married and have two adult children, who live here in Perth, but no longer live at home. My son is engaged and to be married next year, which is very exciting.
I am looking forward to coming to Melville to share with you for the next twelve months.

Holy Cross Melville AGM 23/05/09
"Reaching out into the community with Christ."Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Annual Meeting of Holy Cross Church. At the gathering, grateful thanks were expressed to all who have served and worshipped at Holy Cross during the last year and for our blessings received. We were pleased to register an increase of Church members this year which means that there are currently 92 members on our Electoral Roll and from these people the various positions and posts that are required were filled. Thank you for your willingness to serve in these ways.

Music on McLean 20/04/09
What a wonderful evening of musical entertainment! Once again, if proof were needed we have demonstrated that at Holy Cross we are fortunate to have a group of people capable of organising and putting on events of the very highest quality.
This was extra special because it involved so many people from our community. We had such a diverse range of musicians and singers - the oldest performer was 84 the youngest probably not much older than 4!
Some had performed professionally and others were representing local schools and community groups .
"Cock a doodle you"!
As happens every Sunday in churches across the land the Priest stood and declared "The Lord be with you", the response this time was "and cock a doodle you"! Bishop Kay was presiding at a special Blessing of the Pets Service at Church of the Holy Cross, Melville where the congregation included not only the traditional array of dogs and cats but pet ants, ladybirds, guinea pigs, chooks and a very vocal rooster.
In fact the rear of the church resembled a zoo with so many crates and cages. One of the cages contained a litter of kittens born the night before while the chooks, not wanting to be out done laid several eggs during the service itself. The Rector, Revd. Debbie May commented that "it was wonderful to see the church full of people of ALL ages worshipping God and giving thanks for His creation together" a sentiment echoed by Bishop Kay.
Later in the month it was Teddy Bears all the way during the annual fete. The star attraction was the Parachuting Teddies Competition. Which we believe may be the first time this contest has been held in Australia. The event was the brainchild of the Revd Debbie who arrived at Holy Cross from Devon, England, earlier this year. In England, this sport has gained momentum over some years and brave Teddies often go parachuting from the top of church towers.
Adults as well as children brought their Teddy Bears of Great Courage, suitably attired and attached to parachutes that varied according to their size. The Teddies were due to start their descent at eleven o'clock, and as the excited crowd built up, a lion-hearted parishioner scaled two ladders to the church roof, the Teddies were hoisted up to him by the basket-load, and one by one, down they came. Some tumbled unwillingly, or nervously, or became tangled in their chutes, while others descended with grace and elegance.
It can't be easy for Teddies to leave the safety of their owners' arms and strike out, powered by a gusty wind, to make their landing on hard tarmac! Hearty congratulations to all the Teddies and their proud owners for their skill and courage.
