A History of Abodes!

(The front fence was a couple of courses higher with green wrought iron
edging on top. The conifer in the front yard was there at least from 1960
making it over 50 years old. The gums in front have since replaced those
poisonous oleanders that everyone used to plant!)

Description
“Lawnmower, power rotary two-stroke petrol
'Victa 18" Special', metal/rubber/paper/plastic, designed and made by
Victa staff in
Green painted steel framed lawnmower consisting of a round spun metal baseplate
with two axles welded on top with two wheels each. The plate also holds a two
stroke engine placed vertically with a manual rope-wound crank at the top of
the engine. The engine pierces the plate and is connected to a disc under the
plate with two blades attached to it. There is a black rubber snorkel running
from the carburettor up the handle bar to an air filter and a black accelerator
cable running from the carburettor up the handle to a lever.
An aluminium shaft connects the two axles above the base plate, a winding
mechanism on the shaft raises or lowers the height of the plate (and the
cutting disc and blades beneath it).
Between the two forks of the handle bar is a polished metal shield with 'Victa
Special' painted on it. On the front of the base plate is a red crescent shaped
logo with the word Victa inside it and the number 18 above it.
There are stickers on the engine cowling that specify the brand, rating and
ratio of oil to petrol required for the engine.”

Our aerial was special. We could rotate it on Staurday afternoons to pick up channel 5a so we could watch the ABC country broadcast of the NSW rugby league live!
Now demolished and replaced by a look-a-like vogue house below – no character compared to the original you must admit!

Above - Mitchells Pass Road., Blaxland, NSW ( It s now rendered in a sandy colour –
will get an image next time I cruise past.) 1986 – 1995. Bought a week before
the Stock Market crash and interest rates rocketed to over 18%!
(When I had it, I repainted the timber below the windows from
mission brown to ‘national park green’. These areas were since painted white
and some sort of bluey colour (photo above) )

No carport when we had it but excitement included a beehive in the chimney
cavity and canite walls!
