Under the Trans Tasman Agreement, travel between New Zealand and
Australia is unrestricted. This means that citizens of either country do not need a visa
to travel to the other. However, if you are a family member of a New Zealand citizen, but
you do not have New Zealand citizenship yourself, you cannot enter Australia until a visa
has been granted.

To save yourself AUD$1065 you can do a self-assessment. The Visa application fee for this section is AUD$1055, plus a $10 fee for your forms. If your application fails you will lose this money.
