The reversing
lights are located in the light clusters. The fuse box in the luggage
compartment receives a bus message on the current gear and lights the
reversing lights when reverse gear is engaged.
Manual gearbox
Reversing light
switch (31) pin 1 is connected to Underhood Electrical Centre, UEC (342) pin 9
(M). Pin 2 of the reversing light switch is connected to ground. When the gear
lever is shifted to "R", the brake light switch (31) closes and UEC pin 9 (M)
is grounded. UEC sends the bus message "Reverse gear, manual ON". If the
ignition is on, REC (701) feeds B+ on pin 1 (T-C) and pin 11 (T-B) to pin 1 of
the left or right reversing light (32/418HL or 32/418HR, respectively). Both
light clusters (418HL/HR), in which the reversing lamps are located, are
connected to ground on pin 2.

The transmission range switch (245) is connected to TCM (502). When the gear selector is shifted to "R", RCM (502) receives information on the current selector position. TCM (502) sends the bus message "Automatic selector lever position R". If the ignition is on, REC (701) will feed B+ on pin 1 (T-C) and pin 11 (T-B) to pin 1 of the left or right reversing light (32/418HL or 32/418HR, respectively). Both light clusters (418HL/HR), in which the reversing lamps are located, are connected to ground on pin 2.

Reversing light
activation is delayed 320 ms so the light does not flash when the gear
selector is shifted from "P" to "D" or the like.
