Xbox 360 Console
Identifying the more expensive-to-mod LiteOn model
X360s is a little difficult. Please note that if you bought your console before
the end of 2008 and have never had it repaired there is little chance
you have the more expensive LiteOn Drive. In general consoles with a MFR date (rear of
console above A/V Cable connector) over 2008-04-xx are Lite-On drives but due to
the number of refurbished/repaired X360s on the market this is not a 100% method
to determine your X360 model.

Please note that the trays on
BenQ & LiteOn models are identical (BenQ drives are cheaper to mod). So in order
to check if its a LiteOn, remove the faceplate of the X360 console (please note
this does not void your warranty).

Once the faceplate has been pulled off (clips no screws)
notice the number 2 box in the above photo. Inside this hole is a wire, if the
wire is a grey or white the model is a BenQ. On the other hand if the wire is yellow then the
drive is a LiteOn.
Furthermore if the model is a
LiteOn and manufacturing date on the rear of the console is (MFR date) is over
2009-08-12 (YEAR-MONTH-DAY) then you may have a Lite-On V2.

Xbox 360 Slim Mods
LiteOn 9504, 0225, 0401, 1071 & the updated 9504 drive
and the update 0272 drives are now all moddable. Basically only the Hitachi 0500
is not currently moddable. There is also a LiteOn 1175 Drive which is not unmoddable but we are yet to see this Drive in Australia. You can easily check
by the drive's tray whether you have a LiteOn or Hitachi drive.
