I have Nintendo system update 4.2 or 4.3 installed on my Wii after updating online or with a game disc. Do you have a solution to play oversea games again? Yes we do!

The simple answer is yes!  For just $25.00 inc GST when having a mod installed or $40.00 inc GST when you have already had a wii modchip installed previously by us; or $50.00 inc. GST if you have had the wii mod installed elsewhere (you'll need a 2 gig card here) we supply you with a 2 gig sd card, upgrade you to the newest Wii system update 4.3, install the homebrew channel, and let you boot Gecko OS which re-enables the region-free features of the modchip. Unlike soft mod solutions we do not install a custom IOS which is dangerous, and run the geckoOS software off the SD card in order to keep your system files as close to standard as possible. This fix now also supports the new Wii system update 4.3 update cracked just weeks after release, the price is the same even though the procedure is more difficult for us to perform. This fix is great for those who have had mods installed in the past, but have update to 4.2 / 4.3 via the net or games like Call of Duty, Mario Galaxy 2, or Wii Party.

I have a Wii with a serial number over LAH1162xxxx and have been told it can't be modded. Can you mod it?

Some consoles with serial numbers over LAH1162 ... (some meaning not all) have dvd-rom boards which cannot and will never be moddable, these are known as the V3. Luckily for a $20.00 charge we trade over your unmoddable drive for one that can be modded. All our drives are from v2 Wiis therefore the chip only costs $79.00 inc. GST plus the $20.00 charge for the trade. Sadly the only way to find out if a Wii with a serial number over LAH1162xxxx needs a DVD-Rom board swap is to open the console and check that the serial number of the drive starts with "F" as opposed to "E" (v2). The WODE also supports V3 & V4 boards but only plays games from a hard disk on these later models, playing disc games from a v3 or v4 board will always be impossible without a dvdrom board swap-over as the commands to play backup media have been completely removed. V4 Wiis now have also started to surface and require the entire DVDROM to be swapped over. For this there is a further $19.00 charge, generally these have serial numbers over LAH1192xxx or in some Black or Red Wiis.

I have a black Wii or a Red Super Mario 25th Anniversary Wii. Can I mod chip it?

We are yet to find a Wii we can't mod. Black Wiis can either be V2 / V3  models (see above). Red Wii or Nintendo 25th Anniversary Wiis are generally v3. Though rare, they can also be the new "v4" which requires the entire DVD-ROM (not just the DVD mainboard) to be swapped and costs $150.00 inc. GST with swap-over. In some cases we recommend the WODE as the WODE is a fantastic Nintendo mod chip with a game backup facility (see above) and doesn't cost much more.

Hard Mod or Wii software mod.Which is better?

When customers ask how should I "unlock my wii"?  with a hardware method like a Wii mod or via Wii softmodden we always tell them the same thing, go with a hardware mod.

At Mod Xpress we only use the best solution for our customers which is why we don't use Wii softmod solutions. We instead use only Wii hard mod options like the SunKey and not cheaper softmod Wii solutions like backup launcher 0.3 gamma, Wii backup loader channel, and methods hyped on Wii homebrew download (s) websites. The problem with those Wii mod installers who deal with softmod Wii solutions, “how to softmod a wii”, "how to chip a wii", & "how to unlock Wii" guides on the net are that the software mods are only temporary. Unfortunately Wii update (s) come on game discs and are quite often required to be installed in order to play the game. Once you select to update Wii the Wii soft mod is completely deleted or your Wii motherboard may die from the update. This means that options like the Wii USB loader otherwise known as the Wii Loader USB, Wii loader USB, backup launcher wii and even the Wii homebrew channel are not the best options. Please note in no regards should you perform a Wii 4.3 downgrade as its extremely dangerous, instead use Wii hard mods.

• Software mods are blockable:  Nintendo software updates can block your softmod from functioning or even brick your console. Every few months Nintendo releases a new update via web and game discs that updates your console and will cause certain softmod applications to stop working entirely. Nintendo Software updates can even overwrite the softmod disabling the mod entirely. This is why softmods are not a viable long-term option. On the other hand hardware mods which have been on the market now for over 4 years have never been blocked by Nintendo. Hardware-based Nintendo mod Wii solutions are defenitely the best option.
• Ease of Use: Software mods like Wii iso loader only work once homebrew apps are installed on the Wii dashboard. This means you can't boot backup games without booting these backup loaders which can be difficult to use and time-consuming. Hard Mod backups on the other hand boot automatically just like a normal Wii disc. Soft mods also don't offer region-free support without additional homebrew apps; whilst hard mods offer region-free support with no user interference (pre System Update 4.2). Unlocking Wii consoles is much easier with a proper modchip.
• Soft Mods are difficult to install: There is not a day that goes by where we do not receive a call or email from a customer asking what they should do with their bricked Wii after following a "how to mod wii" guide. The sad fact is that most "how to mod a wii" guides lead to a dead Wii. Wii motherboards are notoriously hard to find because of Wii bricking but if you have this issue bring it into us.
• Update Wii system 4.2 and Nintendo system update 4.3 blocks soft mods 01/10/09: The biggest attack on softmods and the Wii backup loader software has just come with a new update that writes to the boot 2 sector of the console. The update effectively blocks almost all softmods and some homebrew apps. The move was unfortunately predictable after Nintendo got serious with the latest DSi firmware update. We can't stress heavily enough that a hard mod is the best solution for Wii consoles. A Wii 4.3 softmod is also difficult to do. Wii 4.3 downgrade options are also not recommended due to the chance of killing your Wii.
• Issues with bricked softmods after playing Wii Sports Resort: A quick search on google will show plenty of bricked consoles with softmods installed after updating to play Wii Sports Resort. While we are sure Nintendo didn't do this on purpose, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Nintendo to update safely over already modified operating system files that are installed with softmods. "How to softmod Wii" guides often end up costing you alot more in the long run, get it done properly the first time with hardware nintendo modchips.

2 Gig Card - Wii home brew Channel installer

To unlock Wii we offer a 2 gig card option to run the homebrew wii software. The cost for this is between $25 for v1 & v2 model,  $21 for V3 model, and $19 for a v4 (all prices include GST but are only available when having a hardmod installed). Homebrew for Wii allows you to run the program GeckoOS that improves partial region free Wii support with full region-free (replaces Wii freeloader) for Wii System Update 4.1 and lower. Gecko OS also allows Wii 4.3 homebrew to run, and recovers region free for consoles with Wii System Update 4.2 and the System Update 4.3. Wii update. With the 2 gig Wii unlocker Wii apps include a DVD movie player, Media Player, Game System Emulators, and Wii home brew games which are played through the homebrew channel Wii. We can even softmod Wii 4.3 (chip Nintendo Wii) with the Wii homebrew installer. Please note while this method uses software it is not a softmod as the software is driven via the wii modchip.
