DM Says
14-06-05
After a slow start thanks to Christmas and a few participants going on holiday, we've finally resumed play and I'm hopeful of regular sessions. I'm really liking the campaign so far. Player contributions to the web site are quite entertaining with the viewpoints of the characters towards campaign events and each other being a good read (see the Journals section).
The story so far has seen The Heroes of the Roasted Ox meet each other and become involved with the Mullis Town Vigil. They've successfully solved a murder and recovered a lost artefact from the dig site. As a result of their murder investigation which revealed Coal Goblins as the true offenders, they discovered a note revealing a meeting scheduled to take place in the not too distant future.
A trip into the wilderness revealed that the Scarred Lands of Ghelspad are indeed a dangerous place. Despite some challenging moments, they make it to the meeting on time, successfully witness the exchange of words between a Coal Goblin priest and a High Gorgon and return to report the events.
Pleased with their progress so far, Veslii Whitehand - Commander of the Mullis Town Vigil - requests that the Heroes of the Roasted Ox, patrol the first 10 miles of the Codrada Corridor, while he takes a force after the Gorgons. Again they find their travels challenging.
The next turn of events finds our Heroes following a blood trail from an overturned cart that has been set on fire. Again, Coal Goblins are at the bottom of things. After disposing of the initial force, it's discovered that the Coal Goblin hide out is just the first part of a much larger problem - a Coal Goblin city.
The Heroes of the Roasted Ox elect to watch for any comings and goings and intercept a Coal Goblin scout returning home. It is then that they use a whistle provided to them by Veslii which summons Orto Savageclaw of the Valraven and his mount, Swiftstrike. After being told the news, Orto and Swiftstrike make haste to Mithril while our Heroes warn Mullis Town and return to keep watch once again. Eventually, Orto and Swiftstrike return to assist in the defense of the town. No force will be sent from Mithril. Barconius suspects a deeper plot by his nemesis Dar' Tan.
The Heroes, Orto and Swiftstrike wait it out until finally the Vigil returns. It appears that the Coal Goblins will not stike today.
So where to next? We'll soon see at the next session!

So the Mullis Town Vigil took care of the Coal Goblins and our good friends are invited to Mithril for a Divinities' Day celebration at deBronis Estate. Shortly after, Barconius requested that the party investigate the raid of a caravan on the Codrada Corridor and in doing so, discover it as a plot by Dar' Tan to amplify existing quarrels among the Mithril elite.
This turn of events has provided the DM with a lot of enjoyment as the PCs interact with personages of the city. It's opened the door to a number of twists and turns and the future looks interesting to say the least! Stay tuned for more PC journals!
It seems the party may attempt to disband the Grey Guard. Recent experiences with them have left a bad taste in their mouth but the issue at hand is how order will be maintained around the slums if the existing law enforcement is removed. I suppose we'll soon see :)

So the last adventure didn't go so well. I'd been a bit busy, hadn't prepared as well as I could and things weren't fleshed out. It definately showed. The guys weren't as engaged as they usually are and they got distracted easily.
The final battle was dodgy. It turns out the party doesn't have missile weapons and the Pisceans seem to have a fatal flaw in combat from range. I had to have the ships crew end the fight.
Preparation for the next adventure is underway and I'm putting in the work to ensure it keeps the attention of my players. Can't say too much!!
I'm really enjoying the time I spend in preparation and seeing it play out well is great. If only working to live wasn't a requirement :)
