Seeds
| Commercial Seed Growers mainly grow hybrid 1
seeds which are a closed pollinated plant. The seeds from these plants wont be true to
their parents and they wont necessarily produce fruit. (don't save commercial seeds)
Chemical companies often own the seed manufacturer. Save open pollinated seeds (the old seeds) seeds that are not hybrid; these seeds can be obtained from seed saving associations such as Brisbane Organic Growers Inc. (BOGI) Well decomposed compost (sieved) with 20% coarse river sand. Transplant seedlings in the late afternoon, after the heat of the day, when it is cooler. Lightly fork in some good compost, then transplant the plant, water in well, insure that the roots are firm, and there are no air holes. Mulch. For the first couple of days, water and cover the plants, until they are over the shock of transplanting, you could use either an up turned flower pot, margarine container or a small tree branch with leaves on by the time the leaves dry out and fall off the branch the plant will be established |
