The AGM was held in October and a new Executive was elected.
President: Margaret Caley
Vice-President: Heather Coleman
Treasurer: Lyn Saunders
Play-Day Manager: Jean Dartnall
The Executive welcomes (and probably needs) suggestions and input from other members of the Society about any of our activities.
It is an honour to be chosen as President of a society which is thriving, well organized, and has so many willing helpers.
The NQRS has always welcomed players of other instruments (including me) – cello, baroque violin, oboe, guitar, etc. to play days and residential workshops. In 2007, the society will be even more actively encouraging performers of other 'early' instruments to join in. Play days will feature music which can benefit from a mixed group of instruments, such as polychoral works, and music for mixed consorts. Ruth Wilkinson, the guest tutor for the Paluma weekend, is a highly skilled performer on both recorder and viols, and is an ideal person to help to launch the Early Music aspect of NQRS.
I hope that, by broadening its activities to encourage Early Music, the society can provide opportunities for local musicians to develop an awareness of HIP (Historically Informed Performance) ideas, and provide enriching musical experiences for all members.
Meanwhile, have a happy and safe festive season,
Margaret Caley

The previous committee put a lot of work into gathering funds to buy a great bass recorder. This is a wonderful instrument and adds to the tone and depth of a recorder consort but the price puts it beyond most of us. We hope that we might be able to get one for the NQRS if membership and interest remains high.
The next committee meeting is 2.00 pm Sunday February 4th at 24 Masuda Avenue, Annandale. The executive are keen to have other members join them to make sure that the Society is democratic and involves everyone. Contact Margaret on 042 775 7958.
