Playdays are held from 2pm to 4.30 pm on a Sunday afternoon. We generally have a theme, eg Mozart for the March playday that occurred recently.
Everyone is welcome and we are open to suggestions for venues. The Marian School has very kindly allowed us to use their rooms on a number of occasions. The Palmetum, The Maritime Museum, Herveys Range tea rooms and the old Customs house has been the site for other playdays in the past.
Playday dates for the rest of this year: June 18th -- August 27th -- October 29th
The venues for these events have yet to be decided. If you have any suggestions for a pleasant setting, please email or ring any of the committee members.
Venue: Gumburu, Paluma
Dates: 15th -- 17th September, 2006 (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon)
Tutor: Sue Bethune
This year we are returning to our old stamping ground, the Catholic Schools' beautiful environmental education centre on the edge of the Paluma rainforest. The management of Gumburu will cater all meals. Even though this will increase the up front cost, it will allow more time for the participants to talk to the tutor, practise their music for the next session and go for walks in the beautiful tropical rainforest.
Paluma is a small township in the tropical rainforest on Mt Spec, west of Ingham. It is a 1.5 to 2 hours scenic drive from Townsville with a great swimming area at Crystal Creek half way up the Range. There aren’t any shops in Paluma so the area is very quiet with only an occasional day-tripper from the coast.
Tutor: Sue Bethune is an enthusiastic teacher with over twenty years instrumental, choral and classroom music teaching experience. Noted for motivating students to high musical results. Fresh, friendly-but-firm manner. She completed her Bachelor of Education, Melbourne College of Adv. Ed., majoring in Music - Classroom and Woodwinds (Recorder), in 1985 and since then has taught classroom and instrumental music in country Victoria, NSW and (currently) Brisbane.

The NQRS will have a stall at the Fair and all members are encouraged to help out. We will be showcasing the different size recorders available and music composed during the Elizabethan era.
The Telemann Ensemble will be playing recorders and other instruments and will accompany the Early Dance Consort, who are visiting again from Sydney. Those who attended the Armidale festival or the Elizabethan Fair in 2005 may remember their marvellous performances.
