COMMERCIAL ANGORAS AT ROYAL SHOW

Although the number of entries in the Group of four Does or Wether class was slightly down on previous years the ones that did enter still showed the value of Mohair on today’s market.

The winning team of four hogget does was entered by Jeff and Juliana Neves from Walkerway with a gross value of $190.28 for the four fleeces which is an average of $47.57 each. When you consider this is for only six months growth, as Angoras are shorn twice in a year one can see the benefit of running this breed.

Angoras are non-shedders so they can be run with other fleeced animals out in the paddock with no worries of contamination.

The second team also went to the Neves’s while third place went to a group of four young one year old wethers exhibit bred by Sue Jordan from Gidgegannup with a group value of $170.16 for the four fleeces.

The highest individual fleece value was $56.20 while the lowest was $25.60.

There are also available for immediate release Boer Goat embryos from the following breeders L. van Rensburg (123) Theuns Botha (18) Cornelis Botha (31) Koenie Kotze (24) Fourie Partners ‘Bloem’(45)

With our many contact we may be able to source other breeds that you may be interested in. For prices and other information please contact us.

EXPORT AND LOCAL CAPRETTO

We are the moment receiving large numbers of Capretto for both the Export and Local markets. The Export kill this week was over 800 animals. Several lines were from the dry effected parts of WA and are a credit to the growers who are presenting us with quality animals to sell. It seems if you keep the feed up to the Does so they keep up their milk supply they will produce quality kids suitable for any market.

We are now supplying five selected retailers with Capretto and two with larger 12 to 16kg Hogget type Goats every week.

The hogget market is at this stage where the Capretto market was aprox ten years ago and will continue to improve while we keep quality animals in front of the buyers. Like most markets we have initiated here in WA it has taken some time to develop and with the support of our clients we will continue to look at new opportunities, which as your marketer and agent is our job.
