GOAT NEWS

GOAT
MARKETING DURING HOLIDAYS
With
most abattoirs closing over the Christmas and New Year period there will
be no Goats processed from the 23rd December right through till
the 6th January.
Monday
16th December will see the last deliveries of Goats for the
Export
Capretto, Culls and Local Market to the Midland saleyards until
we start again on the Monday 6th January 2003. The Midland depot
arrangements have been very successful this year with growers being able
to deliver Goats for the local and export markets on a Monday morning.
By combining transport with sheep from the Midland sale the Goats are arriving
at the processing plants that day for slaughter the next morning, which
all goes for a fresh product in the market place.
We
will be able to have some Local Capretto delivered on the morning
of Monday 23rd December direct to the abattoirs but nominations
are essential.
Live
Export males
may be delivered by arrangement over the Holiday period to the depotsin
Perth and Bindoon.
If
you have any queries regarding delivery over the Holiday break please get
in touch with us so we can discuss.
BREEDERS
GOING TO SLAUGHTER
Like
most livestock Goats are also being affected by the extreme dry conditions
we are experiencing in most areas of Western Australia. With several growers
cutting their breeding stock back there is an opportunity for anyone who
wants to get into the Goat Industry to pick up some quality breeders. Sheep
prices should continue to be high, although one should never predict anything
in the rural scene. Goats maybe an alternative especially as you should
be able to pay for them in the first season with the sale of offspring.
At
present we have some quality lines of breeders including Cashmere, Boer
Cross and Angoras on the market which if not sold in the next few weeks
will end up at the abattoirs as some have already done so.
