THEME FOR VOLUNTEERING 2010
“Volunteers: Now, more than ever”
This theme really brings volunteering to the forefront and provides a focussed agenda for the volunteering sector. It will raise the profile of volunteering and highlight that volunteering, now, more than ever, is important to Australian society and the contribution of all volunteers must be recognised.
December 5th
International Volunteer Day (IVD)

IVD is an annual sister event in the volunteering calendar. This UN-endorsed day celebrated each year on December 5th recognises and thanks volunteers around the world and increases public awareness of their contribution to society. The day is celebrated in many countries around the world.
IVD was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985 and is now celebrated globally with thousands of volunteers involved in a range of IVD initiatives including clean-up campaigns, conferences, exhibitions, morning teas, and many other activities all aimed to highlight the role of volunteers in their communities.
Volunteering Australia supports IVD and encourages all volunteer based organisations to be involved an celebrate volunteering.
