World Field Archery Championships 2006
Ten members from Wagga Wagga Field Archers and their families made the 15 hr Journey to Hervey Bay Qld for the 2006 World Field Archery Championships. 590 archers attended from all over the world including the UK, United States, South Africa, Namibia and Europe. Wet weather over the five day competition did not dampen spirits despite the gruelling competition lasting up to 6 hours per day. Many divisions had more than 60 competitors, with some divisions approaching 90 competitors. Junior archers Cameron Ramsey, Ethan Aldred and Louis Davis performed well, earning Cameron a Second in his division (Silver Medal), Ethan a 3rd in his class (Bronze Medal) and Louis 2nd in his class (Silver Medal). Other medal winners were: Ken Morley 2nd in his class (Silver Medal); Trevor Aldred, 3rd in his class (Bronze Medal). Other archers from Wagga Wagga also placed well, many shooting personal best scores: Bruce Ramsey, Mark Bayley, Andrew Cabot & Wayne Raggatt. Junior Toby Davis placed 9th in his division after equipment failure caused him to retire early.
